This painting represents the relationship between the natural world associated with the feminine figure of Mother Earth, and the urgent need for change. Our planet is in crisis.
As our demand for food, materials and energy soars; forests are becoming farmland; plastic is filling our oceans and the climate is heating too fast.
We are using the equivalent of 1.6 Earths to maintain our current way of life, ecosystems cannot keep up with our demands. 1 million of the world’s estimated 8 millions species of plants and animals are threatened with extinction. 66% of ocean area is impacted by human activities, including industrial fisheries and pollution.
Close to 90% of the world’s marine fish stocks are fully exploited, overexploited or depleted. Our global food system is the primary driver of biodiversity loss, with agriculture expansion accounting for 70% of the projected loss of terrestrial biodiversity.
